During the last quarter of 2005 we mentioned that horror veteran
George Romero would be directing the movie adaptation of Stephen
King's FROM A BUICK 8. A lot of time has passed since then, and the
movie still hasn't been made yet. In fact a new director has been
announced. According to Fangoria, legendary horror film maker Tobe
Hooper will be directing the movie. Moonstone Entertainment, which
backed Hooper's TOOLBOX MURDERS and MORTUARY, and the new
Amicus Entertainment will produce the movie, which was scripted by
actor Johnathon Schaech and literary editor Richard Chizmar, who
previously penned THE WASHINGTONIANS for MASTERS OF HORROR.

They'll also serve as producers along with MASTERS' Mick Garris. Based
on the
novel by Stephen King, the story centers on teenaged Ned
Wilcox, son of Curtis Wilcox, a now-dead highway patrolman in
Pennsylvania. Curtis' fellow officers decide to reveal a frightening
secret to Ned: the strange car of the title that Curtis investigated
after it was abandoned at a gas station, and that appears to contain a
portal to another dimension inhabited by dangerous creatures.
