According to the Hollywood Reporter, James Bond director Martin
Campbell is circling a remake of the Alfred Hitchcock classic THE BIRDS.
Naomi Watts has been loosely attached to star for some time, but her
involvement is script dependent. While Campbell has no offer to direct
the Universal project, the early talks put the potential movie's production
dates past any possible directors and actors strike. THE BIRDS, released
by Universal in 1963, featured an avian attack on the California coastal
town of Bodega Bay, and marked the screen debut of Hitchcock's newest
ingenue, Tippi Hedren.

Coming three years after "Psycho," it cemented his reputation as a horror
director and launched many "nature on the attack" imitators. The studio
says the redo will owe more to the Daphne du Maurier
short story that
inspired the Hitchcock film. Among the production companies behind the
new film is Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes, which is already reviving the
"Friday the 13th" franchise. Campbell last directed "Casino Royale." His
credits include "Beyond Borders," "The Mask of Zorro" and "GoldenEye."
