It's about time Chucky got the treatment he deserves! This is back when
Charles Lee Ray was actually scary. Say goodbye to your standard full
screen MGM DVDs. According to DVDActive, MGM Home Entertainment
has announced a 20th Anniversary edition of the original CHILD'S PLAY,
which features Brad Dourif as the voice of the possessed Good Guy doll
Chucky. The film was directed by genre legend Tom Holland. When serial
killer Charles Lee Ray is mortally wounded in a police shoot-out, he uses
a voodoo spell to transfer his soul into Chucky, a "Good Guy" doll. Andy
receives the doll as a birthday gift, and Chucky soon resumes his killing
spree. However, Charles doesn't want to be trapped in the body of a doll
forever. His only escape would be to transfer into the first human he
revealed his true identity to...which places Andy in mortal danger.

The disc will be available to own on
September 9th, and should retail at
around $14.98. The film itself will be presented in widescreen (YES!),
along with an English Mono soundtrack (ouch). Extras will include a
commentary with Alex Vincent, Catherine Hicks and "Chucky" designer
Kevin Yagher, a second commentary with Producer David Kirschner and
Screenwriter Don Mancini, Select Scene Chucky Commentary, an Evil
Comes in Small Packages documentary (The Birth of Chucky, Creating the
Horror, Unleashed), 3 featurettes (“Chucky: Building a Nightmare”, “A
Monster Convention”, “Introducing Chucky: The Making of Child’s Play”),
a photo gallery, and trailers. I guess there's some good and bad to this
set. I'm just glad we finally get to see the movie in widescreen. The
artwork has yet to surface, but once it does we'll reveal it for you.
