What's next for Hellboy?
(Shot from the movie HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY)
Online since: February 20th, 2006

He's big, he's red and he's out now in theatres. The return of HELLBOY has
been getting a very positive response from critics and fans alike. Guillermo del
Toro's sequel to the 2004 comic book film is bigger, better and more
entertaining. HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY (review) is filled with epic
battles, humor and a mob of beautiful creatures each with their own
personalities. If anything is made clear in this movie, it's the fact that
Guillermo loves monsters, including the big red ape. The box office results for
HELLBOY II have yet to come in, but we can't help but question the future of
the franchise. There's been a lot of rumors and speculation as to what
Guillermo might do if he and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola decide to make
another movie. Most sources point to the direction of Hellboy going up
against the Universal monsters Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolf Man.
Now that Hellboy is with Universal, it would just make sense for him to go up
against the classic monsters. Although it does sound a lot like VAN HELSING, I
know that Guillermo and Mignola can pull it off without having it be
unintentionally funny. Guillermo now has his sights set on the two planned
HOBBIT movies, which will both be produced by Peter Jackson. If all goes
well, maybe we'll even get to see Del Toro's version of FRANKENSTEIN. We
hope to god that Hellboy does make enough money at the box office,
because after THE GOLDEN ARMY ended, we wanted to see more. Since it's
not likely to happen anytime soon, we'll just have to keep watching THE
GOLDEN ARMY over and over again until we get to see a third movie.
Whatever direction Hellboy takes, we'll be there with a closed rock fist.
