Directed by: David Zucker
Story: Anna Faris and Regina Hall are back as the lovable, dim-witted Cindy
Campbell and her self-serving, sex-crazed pal Brenda respectively. They are
joined this time around by Craig Bierko as the cute, but utterly clueless, Tom
Ryan. Together, they battle to save the world from a ruthless alien invasion.
Cindy Campbell moves in next to Tom Ryan because she's taking care of an
old lady. She finds out the house is haunted by a little boy and goes on a
quest in the village to find out who killed him and why. Also, Alien "Tr-iPods"
are invading the world and Cindy has to uncover the secret in order to stop
What is it with Dimension films? Are they so desperate to milk out a franchise
that should have been stopped a long time ago? Is it for the money? Oh
wait, everything is for money. How could I have been so blind to forget that
corporations have taken over the movie industry? If something does well in
the theatres then they'll go out and spend more money on sequels up until it
no longer makes enough at the box office. Scary Movie 3 did surprisingly well
despite a lot of the negative reviews and trash talk. So what do we get?
ANOTHER SCARY MOVIE. This time around nothing is all that funny. I believe
that they tried way too hard and did too much. Perhaps they make these
films very bad on purpose. There isn't really a straight plot so I won't bother
explaining everything to you. All you really need to know (and I'm sure you
guessed it from the commercials) is that it's just one giant spoof after
another much like the last three films. Nothing has changed, it's all the same.
Films included in this giant spoof are Saw, Saw 2, The Grudge, War of The
Worlds, Brokeback Mountain and all the other stuff that you've seen in the
previews. It's all here but it's no fun. The humor is dull and most of the
scenes are pushed to the point where it's just not funny. You get bored after
seeing so many people hitting tables, desks and getting hit in the nuts. It's
not funny after a while and there's so much of that in Scary Movie 4. The
slapstick humor is the same and it's just really lame. Everything felt pushed
and I felt like leaving the theatre about half way through. Sadly I actually
stayed in my seat for the rest of it and that was just a bad mistake on my
part. The biggest mistake I made was actually paying for this trash. Just the
thought of helping this movie out at the box office makes my blood boil. As
for the films plot, oh wait I forgot, there is no plot. How that works I just
don't know. Watching a movie without a plot is like watching fish swim and I
would have done that rather then spending money on this.
I will admit though I did find the first ten or twenty minutes of the movie to
be pretty entertaining. The rest of it is just a big mess and the slapstick
humor just isn't funny anymore. What the movie did feature were some
decent cameos, but even that I found to be annoying after a while. It just
gets irritating to see a mainstream rapper pop up on screen every 20
minutes. The only real good humor is in the dialog and the first 10 minutes of
the movie was pretty fun. The rest of it is nothing more then a waste of time.
If you're very familiar with these kind of films then you'll hate Scary Movie 4. I
like these kind of comedies but this one goes into my list of must avoid films.
It's nothing new, nothing at all. No surprises what so ever, just the same old
repetitive spoofing. I really hope that this doesn't become one of those
franchises that won't die. Although I did like the previous three films to some
extent I honestly believe that they should have stopped at number 3.
As I mentioned so many times in this review Scary movie 4 features nothing
new. You can play it out in your head before you see it. There are no
surprises and most of it was just pointless. I thought the humor was really
dull and pushed. Why they even bothered to make a third film I don't know. I
see Scary Movie 4 as a way to try and make a quick buck. Not only do I
dislike the film but I also believe that it's the worst in the series. But then
again that's just me and I'm sure some of you out there may enjoy it. So if
you're into seeing repetitive spoofs then you'll probably like Scary Movie 4.
However if you didn't like the last two films then avoid this one at all costs. I
can't see how anyone could enjoy such a brainless film anyway. But I don't
know, there are people out there who will enjoy it. I'm just not one of them.
