Review done by: Nightmare Child
Starring: Rocky Marquette, Paydin LoPachin, Katie Chonacas, Bruce Weitz

Director: Mark Jones

Synopsis: The film centers on a pair of siblings with major psychological
problems. Norbert and Angelina lost their mother at a young age due to a
drug overdose. Their mother was a venturing ventriloquist who had a dummy
named, well, dummy. Years later both Norbert and Angelina hit the road to
Las Vegas with their ventriloquist dummy (who seems to have a mind of his
own).

Review:

Triloquist is one of those movies that has a cool cover, but the movie itself is
garbage. I think we've all been down this road before. I'm a sucker for horror
movies about doll possession. I'm really fond of movies like "Dolls," "Child's
Play," "Demonic Toys," "Puppet Master" and so on. The thought of toys
coming to life is very creepy. Hell my favorite episode of The X-Files deals with
a possessed doll. Things like this just creep me out, even more so when I
was a kid. When I received this movie in the mail, I got pretty excited. The
fact that it was about a living doll had me sold right away. When I finally got
around to watching it, I kicked myself for ever thinking that this could be a
good movie, because it's not. It's far from good. In fact, I don't think I'll ever
give this film a second viewing. Once was enough for me. What killed it for me
you ask? Well, it's a bit of everything. Before I dissect the film into a million
pieces (a million meaning few), lets go over the story.

The film centers on a pair of siblings with major psychological problems.
Norbert and Angelina lost their mother at a young age due to a drug
overdose. Their mother was a venturing ventriloquist who had a dummy
named, well, dummy. Years later both Norbert and Angelina hit the road to
Las Vegas with their ventriloquist dummy (who seems to have a mind of his
own). They're goal is to put on an act and come up with ways to make
money. They steal cars and get into trouble with the cops. Along the way,
the twisted trio leaves a trail of blood and carnage in their wake as they set
out to become the greatest ventriloquist act Vegas has even seen. The story
is pretty simple. Think "Devil's Rejects," but with lame characters and a
creepy ventriloquist dummy. As promising as the concept is, it doesn't play
out all that great. What really killed it was the script.

Writer/direcor Mark Jones is the same guy that brought us the horror
favorite "Leprechaun." Sadly, this film doesn't stand anywhere near
Leprechaun. Triloquist is a horrible film with bad dialog and an annoying cast
of characters. The most annoying one in particular is the character Angelina.
Angelina is a young, obnoxious little girl who has a really bad mouth.
Everything that comes out of her mouth is horrendous. Perhaps shes been
written this way on purpose. It's a big example of how characters can ruin a
film. The more Angelina continued to run her mouth, the more I wanted to
shut off my TV. I wanted to jump onto the screen and shove a sock deep
down her throat. Triloquist is such a weird movie. Half of the things that go
on in this movie need an explanation. Take this scene for example: While on
the road, Angelina and Norbert walk into a bar where there's a DJ and a
rapper performing. Angelina (with a shotgun in hand) decides to shoot up
the place, and asks the crew to keep playing music.

Norbert and Angelina then take it upon themselves to dance like morons. In
case you were wondering, I didn't make that up. Seriously, what the fuck
were they thinking? This movie is beyond ridiculous. What's worst than the
script however are the so called "death scenes" which play out more like a cut
up television movie. It's barely even a horror film. The deaths scenes don't
even make sense. They rarely show the gore and the kills are very weak. It's
like watching an episode of "Goosebumps" or "Are You Afraid of the Dark." I
could go on and on about how bad this movie is, but there's really no point.
It is what it is, and it is terrible. I suppose it's my fault for thinking that this
could have been decent. You're not supposed to expect much from a straight
to DVD release anyway. If you're smart, then I suggest that you DO NOT
pick up this movie. Don't buy it, don't rent it and don't even pick it and read
the back if you see it in a store. Just avoid it at all costs, please.
