Oh mio dio! Evil will be redefined this year by the much anticipated horror film, MOTHER OF
TEARS, which arrives on unrated DVD
September 23rd (finally!). Genius Products and The
Weinstein Company introduce another gem under the Dimension Extreme label – the final
installment from “The Three Mothers” trilogy by the infamous Italian director Dario Argento.
Set in Rome, Italy, an unassuming American art student accidentally resurrects a wicked
witch, Mater Lachrymarum, from her grave and awakens the city to utter turmoil and
destruction. In order to restore peace and put an end to this evil power for good, the
student must use her own supernatural abilities to save the city from Mater Lachrymarum’s
wrath.

MOTHER OF TEARS is one of the most intense films from Argento’s amazing body of work.
He brings to it his renowned cinematic style and unique approach to thrill and terror.
Argento’s reputation as the “Italian Hitchcock” is no way an exaggeration - the admiration
he has earned by great directors such as Brian DePalma and George A. Romero, proves
that he not only develops a special beauty in his work but he also brings new meaning and
insight to this genre. You can pre-order MOTHER OF TEARS over at
Amazon.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Weinstein Co. paid mid-six figures for all North
American rights except theatrical and Canadian television for Dario Argento's MOTHER OF
TEARS from Myriad Pictures. Italian maestro of horror Argento's characteristically campy
and gory thriller is the finale to the "Three Mothers" trilogy that includes 1977's SUSPIRIA
and 1980's INFERNO. It drew a round of humorous text messages among acquisitions execs
and kindred spirits during its opening-night Midnight Madness premiere at Toronto. The
director's daughter, Asia Argento, stars as the curator of a Rome museum housing an evil
urn. Beautiful witches appear, and a scary monkey chases the unfortunate curator in the
feature, which sports performances by Udo Kier and Asia's mother, Daria Nicolodi. Myriad
will release the film in select markets in the U.S. and Canada early next year, and Genius
Products will distribute the DVD domestically under its exclusive agreement with TWC.

"The passion that Harvey Weinstein, (Weinstein Home Entertainment executive vp) Barry
Gordon and the TWC team had for the film ... got the deal closed,"
Myriad president and
CEO Kirk D'Amico said.
"We look forward to Myriad handling the theatrical release
alongside their expertise and experience on the DVD and the rest of the media side."
The
Opera Films/Medusa production is produced by Dario and Claudio Argento and executive
produced by D'Amico and Giulia Marletta. Dario Argento, Jace Anderson and Adam Gierasch
wrote the screenplay. Gordon and Eileen Rodriguez negotiated on behalf of the Weinstein
Co. D'Amico negotiated on behalf of Myriad. The film centers on a young American art
student, Sarah, who "unwittingly opens an ancient urn that unleashes the demonic power
of the world's most powerful witch. As a scourge of suicides plague the city and witches
from all over the world converge on Rome to pay homage, Sarah must use all her own

In a recent interview with Twitch Argento talks about work on the MASTERS OF HORROR
SERIES.
"Masters of Horror for me it was very important. Because for a long time
censors have been cutting my works. This makes me so sad, because many times they
will tell me Television won’t like, so we have to cut, cut, cut! I was so sad. Suddenly the
American producer contacted me about Masters of Horror and told me, “you are free, do
what you want!” I say to him, 'you know what is significant to say to Dario Argento is to
say go and do what you want!' "
Argento also told Twitch what he has in store with his
new film MOTHER OF TEARS.
"This is a little bit different because times have changed.
Lots of terrible things have happened. In Inferno, I said the Third Mother is the most
beautiful and the most cruel. Which is true, she is very cruel, very terrible. She is not
Asia. Moran Atias is the Third Mother. The violence in this film is going to be very terrible."

Argento mentioned that the upcoming DVD will feature an uncut version of the movie. This
is the third chapter in Dario Argento's saga which began with SUSPIRIA and continued with
INFERNO. The film centers on a young American art student, Sarah, who unwittingly opens
an ancient urn that unleashes the demonic power of the world's most powerful witch. As a
scourge of suicides plague the city and witches from all over the world converge on Rome

before her evil conquers the world. Directed by Dario Argento, the film stars Asia Argento,
Udo Kier, Cristian Solimeno, Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni, Daria Nicolodi, Moran Atias and
Philippe Leroy.
