Meet the New Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre
There might not be a franchise with a more complicated (or confusing) continuity than The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There was an original four-movie timeline, starting with Tobe Hooper’s 1974 original, then a reboot, then a prequel on restart. Then there was a direct sequel to the original Texas Chainsaw who ignored the previous sequelae. (It was in 2013 Texas 3D Chainsaw.) Then there was another prequel (2017 Leatherface) which is believed to predate all previous films.
Now there is Chainsaw Massacre (no “the”!), another “direct sequel” to the original film. This is a new group of teenagers stumbling across Leatherface some 50 years after the events of this film. Theoretically, then, this is the same Leatherface from the first film, which has clearly never lost its love of chainsaws over the decades.
You can see the first image of this new Leatherface above; here is a photo of the distribution without leather:
Here’s the official synopsis for the film:
Melody (Sarah Yarkin), her teenage sister Lila (Elsie Fisher), and their friends Dante (Jacob Latimore) and Ruth (Nell Hudson), travel to the remote town of Harlow, Texas to start an idealistic new business. But their dream quickly turns into a waking nightmare when they accidentally disrupt the home of Leatherface, the deranged serial killer whose bloody legacy continues to haunt locals, including Sally Hardesty (Olwen Fouéré), the only survivor. of his infamous 1973 massacre, which is determined to take revenge.
First Texas Chainsaw, Sally was played by Marilyn Burns, so she’s another returning character, but played by a different actress.
If it’s almost 50 years later, that means Leatherface is, what, 70 years old? 80? Will he move like a 75 year old man in the movie? It could be quite interesting (or funny) if he does. In a way, however, we doubt it. This new Chainsaw Massacre premieres on Netflix on February 18.
