The game becomes existential in Turnstile’s ‘Underwater Boi’ video

Turnstile enters the online virtual world in the punk band’s new music video for their SHINE ON song “Underwater Boi”. Watch it below.

The animated clip was directed and edited by Turnstile drummer Daniel Fang and captured entirely in the field of second life, the MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) phenomenon of 2003.

Perhaps the group is making a statement about the metaverse, the term for the envisioned scanning VR environment now being pushed by Facebook after the tech giant changed its name to Meta in pursuit of it last year. (Some artists, like singer Poppy, have launched their own metaverses in response.)

Sonically, the airy mix of Turnstile’s “Underwater Boi” is unlike the signature band’s other tracks, including recent singles “Mystery” and “Blackout.” But that’s not unusual given the act’s penchant for experimenting with sounds. SHINE ONTurnstile’s third album, was released last August.

Last month, they performed “Underwater Boi” and six other songs for an NPR Tiny Desk (Home) concert surrounded by stuffed albums. A few weeks ago, they performed two songs on Late Night with Seth Meyers for their late night television debut.

Loudwire chose SHINE ON as the third best rock and metal album of 2021. “Holiday” from the album, first released on Love turnstile Link EP, was one of Loudwire’s top rock songs of 2021. See Turnstile’s upcoming tour dates below the clip.

10 Artists With The Most Iconic Rock + Metal Hairstyles

Hello, my name is AJ and I’m the lead singer of the horror-influenced metal/rock band We’re Wolves. When I’m not creating and playing music with the band, I’m a licensed professional barber in Boca Raton, Florida. I have been in the professional haircut industry for eight years.

It’s always been awesome to see how interconnected trendy haircuts are with music. You can tell a lot about a band just by their hair. Whether they are goth, rock, metal, punk, etc., the hairstyle plays an essential role in the image of a group. Believe me, a licensed professional in a metal band who cares a lot about his hair.

Let’s move on to my top 10 most iconic hairstyles in rock and metal.
