Walking Dead Universe: Ron Underwood and Gale Anne Hurd

The Walking Dead The universe includes a group of very talented actors, directors, producers and other people. It’s always interesting to see what other projects TWD Family is involved in. This month, Peacock released the 1990 film, Tremors to its roster, which includes director Ron Underwood and producer Gale Anne Hurd, two well-known names in TWDU.

Tremors is a western-themed monster-horror comedy directed by Ron Underwood that Gale Anne Hurd serves as executive producer along with Brent Maddock and SS Wilson. Written by Maddock, Wilson and Underwood, the idea originated in the 80s when Maddock and Wilson were working for the US Navy making security videos. They found themselves on top of a large rock in the desert and wondered what would happen if something did not allow them to leave. This inspired what was initially dubbed “Land Sharks”.

The film stars Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross and Reba McEntire and follows two local handymen tired of their social life. When they finally decide to leave, they discover the corpse of a local man on top of an electric tower, still holding his gun, as if something isn’t letting him down. When more deaths begin to occur, they team up with a seismologist who is studying strange underground readings. The trio and a couple of local survivalists must fight something they never thought they would encounter.

This film is the first of the Tremor franchise, which is followed by Tremors 2: Aftershocks (1996), Tremors 3: Back to Perfection (2001), Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (2004), Tremors 5: Bloodlines (2015)Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell (2018), and Tremors: The Island of Howlers (2020), all of which were added to Peacock’s catalog in July 2022. Tremors: the series aired in 2003, and a second series shot a pilot with Bacon reprising her role, but it was never picked up.
